Tsygan ("Gypsy") Heirloom Russian Tomato Seeds
This Russian heirloom variety was developed during the Soviet era and was introduced into the U.S. in 2000. I decided to grow it this year for the first time after hearing good things about it from a friend in Germany.
I love black tomatoes, so this one really made an impression on me. The fruit average about 6 ounces, and tend to have green shoulders. They mature from a dark pink-color to a brownish-purple, with the interior turning dark purple. The flavor is outstanding, and the productivity appears to be excellent. I began harvesting on August 1st (54 days after transplant). The fruit are quite regular and free of blemishes.
