Growing Coleus

Although coleus seeds may be sown at any time of the year when warmth can be furnished, seeds sown during February will produce plants of just the right size for outdoor use in May.

Use a light rich potting soil, but do not over-fertilize.

Plant in a pot three or four inches deep or any other type of container with plenty of drainage.

Fill the pots to within ½” of the top of your container, smooth the soil, wet thoroughly, and sprinkle the seed very thinly on top of the moist soil. Then cover the seed with only a DUSTING of soil. The seeds need some LIGHT to germinate. Optimum germination occurs at room temperature- 70-74F.

Do not cover the pots with a plastic cover! Give the top of the bed a gentle firming with the palm of your hand. Set the container in warm water (in a tray or saucer) so that moisture comes from the bottom and will not disturb the seed.

Seeds should germinate within 14 days.
